# GSW On the stomach

Protect abdominal wounds, monitor for internal bleeding, and transport urgently.

### Immediate actions

1. Complete the primary assessment (ABCs).
2. Expose the abdomen and locate the wound.
3. Check for entry and exit wounds.

### Protect the wound

Cover the wound with a sterile dressing. Control bleeding with gentle pressure around the wound.

Do not push exposed organs back into the abdomen.

If organs protrude, cover them with a sterile moist dressing. Place a dry dressing over it.

### Monitor for internal bleeding

Watch for these signs:

* Increasing abdominal pain or swelling.
* Pale or cool skin.
* Rapid heart rate, low blood pressure, or decreasing consciousness.

### Transport

Transport as soon as possible. Reassess airway, breathing, circulation, and bleeding throughout transport.
