# Introduction

A quick reference for emergency procedures and treatment guidance.

Use this handbook as a quick reference during patient assessment, treatment, and transport.

### Start here

Begin with [Arriving on scene.](/arriving-on-scene.md) for scene safety, triage, and initial assessment.

### Find a treatment guide

Use the relevant guide after completing the initial assessment:

* **Gunshot wounds** — assess the wound and select body-area care.
* **Burns** — stop the burning process and select body-area care.
* **Broken limbs** — assess suspected fractures and immobilize safely.
* **Airway emergencies** — identify airway compromise and support ventilation.
* **Other emergencies** — use the relevant procedure when available.

See [Gunshot wounds](/gunshot-wounds.md) for injury specific guidance. See [Burns](/burns.md) for burn specific guidance. See [Broken limbs](/broken-limbs.md) for fracture specific guidance. See [Airway emergencies](/airway-problems.md) for airway specific guidance.

{% hint style="info" %}
Prioritize scene safety, patient assessment, and the most urgent injuries first.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://handbook.teddwa.xyz/introduction.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
